Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments

The government’s Biodiversity Net Gain requirements are intended to prevent the loss of habitat and biodiversity usually associated with development. Plans for new commercial, residential and industrial projects must now include provisions for a ten percent increase in biodiversity.
The regulations came into force in early 2024 (January for larger developments, April for minor developments of up to nine units), bringing to an end the BNG transition period that began in 2021. All projects must now meet the requirements.

Ask EAL Consult
For advice on the Biodiversity Net Gain regulations, and how they affect your minor development, we provide BNG calculations and reports for your build, and advice on the physical on-site delivery of your BNG commitments.
The point of the regulations is to ensure that an increase in biodiversity is considered and incorporated into your project from the start. A BNG assessment at the beginning of your planning process allows you to adapt your project to meet the requirements before you move on to the detailed design stages. Our recommendations may be as simple as including a tree-planting strategy in your project – or we may propose revisions to the scope of your development to protect and enhance habitats already in place.
Considering these regulations early in your planning process will allow you to incorporate the BNG requirements into your project before the final planning stages. Your build will comply with the regulations from the beginning, and you are less likely to encounter any costly surprises later in the process.
Trust EAL to provide the assessments, recommendations and advice you need to be BNG compliant from the start.
